BURNS, Ore. (KOIN) — Arizona rancher LaVoy Finicum, the de facto spokesman for the militia at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, was killed after a confrontation with FBI and Oregon State Police on Tuesday, sources confirm to CNN.
Ryan Bundy was also shot, but is expected to survive.
The standoff reached a boiling point Tuesday afternoon when 7 people were arrested while on Hwy 395. The group was en route to John Day where a meeting about the refuge occupation was being held.
The FBI did not officially confirm Finicum was killed.
A total of 7 people were arrested — including militia leaders Ammon and Ryan Bundy — after the FBI and the Oregon State Police intercepted the group along Highway 395.
Shots were fired after FBI agents, Oregon State Police and other authorities made the stop. It’s not clear who fired first, CBS News confirmed.
