BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Severe weather has had a drastic impact on the nation’s blood supply.
Supplies are often low during the winter months, and according to American Red Cross Communications Manager, Kristen Stancil this year’s supply is even lower thanks to Mother Nature.
Severe weather cancelled hundreds of drives that were scheduled this month, leaving behind a potential of 9,500 donations. Now, the organization is calling on the public to help replenish the dwindling supply.
Donors must be at least 17 years of age, in good health, and weigh at least 110 pounds.
