ALICEVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) — The National Weather Service confirms that an EF-2 Tornado touched down Tuesday afternoon in Pickens County. The strong storm destroyed a number of houses in the Aliceville community.
Most of the damage was on MLK Road and Sapps Road.
Annie Seay and her husband are thankful to be alive. When the tornado touched down Tuesday afternoon on Sapps Road the couple ran to their bathroom to seek shelter.
“You can’t put the words together to express how grateful I am and how good God is. We could have been gone. And it’s just really a blessing,” Seay said.
The family tells WIAT their car was destroyed, the wall to their bedroom was ripped off. The roof and garage were also destroyed. The tornado destroyed 13 homes; 10 of those were mobile homes. Pickens County officials say their were some minor injuries but no fatalities.
The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army are on the scene providing assistance to victims who need help. The Red Cross has set up a shelter at the Aliceville City Hall. They are providing victims with food, clothing and a place to sleep.
