BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham police say a homicide suspect is in custody after a citizen provided a key piece of evidence to the investigation.
Birmingham Police Lt. Sean Edwards says the suspect is 23-year-old Jarrod Hill of Birmingham. A capital murder warrant with no bond was obtained for Hill. He is being held in the Jefferson County Jail.
Police previously told CBS42 Walker was found inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
According to Edwards, the preliminary investigation revealed the incident stemmed from a possible robbery. Witnesses reportedly told investigators several gunshots were heard before the vehicle wrecked. Witnesses reportedly said they observed two black males standing by the vehicle before they fled the scene.
This case is proof that partnerships with our citizens work. Detectives were able to solve this case because a citizen got involved and provided a key piece to the investigation. Our detectives are some of the hardest working law enforcement officers in the profession,” Birmingham Lt. Edwards said in a statement.
Edwards asks anyone with additional information on the case contact the BPD Homicide Unit at 254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 254-7777.
