AUBURN, Ala. (WIAT) — After posting wins of 9-0 and 19-1 to start the season, the Auburn softball team took it to Butler and Furman Saturday to remain undefeated in the early season.
Auburn 28, Butler 2 (5 innings)
In the first game of the Tigers’ doubleheader Saturday, Auburn used a 15-run first inning to blast Butler, 28-2. The Tigers hammered out 26 hits, including five home runs, to beat the Bulldogs in five innings.
Victoria Draper went 3-3 with an RBI for the Tigers. Whitney Jordan added two hits, including a home run, and led the Tigers with five RBIs. Bree Fornis and Kasey Cooper each added two hits and four RBIs.
Freshman Makayla Martin got the win for the Tigers over Butler with four innings of work, giving up four hits and recording three strikeouts.
Auburn 9, Furman 2
In the second game of the afternoon, Auburn got off to a slow start but still pulled away from Furman, 9-2.
The Tigers scored two runs in the second and fifth innings before exploding for five runs in the seventh.
Cooper continued her big day at the plate with two more hits, one which was another home run, with two runs and two RBIs. Jenna Abbott added two RBIs for the Tigers.
On the mound, Marcy Harper got the win for Auburn with five innings of work and giving up no runs on four hits.
The Tigers finish up the Plainsman Invite Sunday with a game against Appalachian State. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. at Jane B. Moore Field. The Tigers beat the Mountaineers 9-0 Thursday night.
