1 airlifted after vehicle crashes into Northport Dollar General

NORTHPORT, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: The Northport Police Department said Tuesday that the injured party remains in UAB Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

A second injured individual was treated and released, and the status of others involved is unknown at this time.

Carrie Baker, PIO with the Northport Police Department said the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, as traffic and homicide investigators are still reviewing store video and witness accounts.

Dollar General said the cost of estimated damages is unknown, as is the projected reopen of the store. Inquiries about the store should be directed to 205-333-5847.

ORIGINAL: Two people are injured, one seriously, after a vehicle crashed into a Dollar General on McFarland Blvd around 5 p.m. Monday.

Northport Fire and Rescue says one victim was airlifted to UAB with apparent serious injuries. The victim was inside Dollar General when the vehicle crashed into the storefront.

The driver of the vehicle suffered injures that are not life threatening.
