(WIAT) — Some California lawmakers are working on a bill that would give parents paid time off for school-related activities with their children
The bill would require businesses to give parents three paid days off a year so they can play a more active role in their child’s school life.
It updates California’s “family-school and partnership act,” and would not apply to small businesses, only those with more than 25 employees.
Some people aren’t happy about the proposal.
“It’s surprising to me,” said Joe Pane, who opposes the legislation. “Especially the way the economy is right now where people are always looking for money and where are we going to find money for good causes.”
“I think it’s a good idea for moms to be able to spend more time with their kids, definitely,” said supporter Hana Madl.
There are several lawmakers backing the bill.
They say securing more time with pay is a good cause, one they’re prepared to keep fighting for.
