New bill would require teachers to grade Mississippi parents

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A new bill has been approved by the Mississippi house to encourage parental involvement in their child’s education. The Parental Involvement and Accountability Act proposed by state representative Gregory Holloway would require a parental section to be added to report cards.

Parents would be graded with A, B, C, or D marks in several categories which include their responsiveness to communication with teachers, the student’s completion of homework and preparedness for tests, and the frequency of absences and late attendance.

If the legislation becomes law it will take effect at the beginning of the next school year.
