NORTHPORT, Ala. (WIAT) — Northport police officers received new training today on equipment used to enforce those who are caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
Dozens of Northport officers, along with some Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputies, had to take the Dräger test. The Dräger company makes several of the breathalyzer kits that are used by forces around the country.
Once a year, officers must get re-certified on breathalyzer equipment used in the field when they conduct sobriety stops. Officials with Northport PD stated that they believe it is always critical that officers keep up with training to stay sharp on the road when they are looking out for drunk drivers.
In Alabama, if you refuse to take a breathalyzer test the state will suspend your license.
