Birmingham, Ala. (WIAT) — In his first year as SEC Commissioner, Greg Sankey hasn’t had many bad days on the job. However, Sunday night during the NCAA Tournament selection show, Sankey wasn’t a happy commissioner.
“In many ways it’s been great, the Selection Show was a bit of a downer.” Sankey Said “But I haven’t had many of those fortunately.”
Sankey spoke at the Birmingham Tipoff Club, Monday, and was displeased that the SEC only received three bids (Kentucky, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt) to “The Big Dance”, the likes of South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, left out of the 68 team tournament field.
“Well it’s not at all what we have set as an expectation across the board for our sports but it’s the third time in four years, and what is concerning is that becomes a trend.” Said Sankey “So while we’ve done much to improve facilities, coaches, scheduling strategies, and I think we saw progress this year but we’re still not where we want to be.”
