HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — A Shelby County teen is behind bars after being charged with sexual abuse in the first degree.
According to Hoover Capt. Gregg Rector, 18-year-old Christopher Michael Tate was charged after a female jogger was forcibly kissed and groped in a sexual manner on March 5.
Rector says the victim was jogging on a paved trail between the Maple Trace Subdivision and Hoover High School. The suspect, who was also jogging, reportedly came up to the victim and “attempted to befriend her.”
When they got to a secluded area of the trail, the suspect grabbed the woman, “forcibly kissing and groping her in a sexual manner.” Rector says she kicked the suspect and ran for help.
A warrant for Tate’s arrest was issued March 10. He surrendered at the Jefferson County Jail in Bessemer the next day. His bond is set at $15,000.
