BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham City Council is holding a public hearing on changes to the Mayor-Council Act.
Lawmakers with the Jefferson County Delegation acknowledged receiving a wish list from mayor William Bell about what they would like to see happen.
He said residents are happy with the act the way it is. Mayor Bell tells CBS42 ultimately any changes aren’t up to him.
“That is a matter I will leave up to state legislature, they are the ones that created the mayor and council act and they made adjustments through the years and we will just see what they propose,” said Bell.
CBS 2 News spoke with community activist Frank Matthews outside city hall Wednesday.
“The majority of the citizens think that Mayor and Council Act should stay the way it is,” said Matthews.
The public hearing is at Thursday, March 17 at 6 P.M. at the Birmingham city council chambers.
