ORIGINAL: Officers with Hoover Police were called to a report of an assault on Larkspur Drive late Tuesday evening. The 28-year-old female victim was found walking near the road.
According to investigators, the victim had significant injuries and was treated at the scene and transported to UAB hospital. The victim was able to tell the police she was nearly seven-months pregnant.
Detectives say the unborn baby did not survive.
According to police, she identified her attacker as her former boyfriend, Christopher Kemp.
“It was just one of the most brutal, savage attacks we’ve ever seen, probably,” said Hoover Police Captain Gregg Rector.
Neighbors told CBS 42 News they’re shocked.
“They didn’t get out much. They were just moving a lot. I could hear the man yelling, when they were moving.” said Jonathan Jones, who lives across the street. “I don’t know if he was yelling at her in anger or anything, but you know, just yelling in and out of the house.”
“I think we need to do a better job of reaching out to people in the neighborhood, particularly when it’s someone new that’s moving in,” said William Avant, who lives nearby.
Christopher Kemp was captured by Birmingham Police around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Center Point area.
