IRS warns of new scams during tax season

BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) — New this morning, the IRS is warning users to watch out for scams and harmful software that can compromise personal information.

The IRS says it has seen a 400% increase in phishing and malware incidents this tax season alone. In response, the IRS has issued a consumer alert so people will be on the lookout for fake information.

They one particular scam involves scammers sending out fake emails that try to get your personal information.

It’s important to note that the IRS does not usually send emails to request personal information. If you happen to get an email, you should contact the IRS directly to confirm the request.
