BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – It’s a first of its kind event in Alabama designed to educate and engage girls to explore the field of construction.
Dozens of young girls from Jefferson, Shelby and St. Clair Counties are knocking down myths about women in construction.
It’s thanks to this Power Up event for mothers and daughters at the Alabama Workforce Training Center Tuesday night.
CBS42 news anchor Sherri Jackson got a chance to moderate a panel of women in electrical engineering, heavy equipment and marine utility construction.
“To show them they can do whatever they set their mind to,” said Antiqua Cleggeg, executive director of the Central Six Development Council. “There is nothing too difficult if they have the drive enough to do it.”
One of the sponsors say they had more than 20 contractors on hand to help engage the girls.
