Families of cold case murder victims speak in search of justice

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham police need your help to solve two cold cases. They are asking anyone with information to come forward.

23-year-old James Johnson was killed on April 26th in 2005. Police say he was sitting in a car at 915 4th Ave West when he was shot.

27-year-old Thaxter McKnight was killed on January 23, 2002. A maintenance worker found him with a gunshot wound to his head at his home in the Crestwood Apartments.

McKnight’s family says it’s been hard suffering through 14 years without justice.

“The last 14 years has been very difficult. Kids growing up. His own kids, grandkids, nephews, nieces…it hasn’t been the same.  All my siblings, aunties, uncles. But God blessed us for us to be able to move on,” the victim’s brother Eddie McKnight said.
