(WIAT) — Sears holdings the company that owns Kmart announced four Kmart stores will be closing its doors in Alabama in late July amid a decline in sales.
The four stores include the one located in Trussville and one in Homewood.
Nancy Russell, who has been a loyal customer at the Kmart in Trussville ,said she feels for the employees who will be out a job soon.
“I feel sorry. The cashier that checked me out told me that she will be going back to school a little bit early this time,” said Russell.
Shopper Jane Scoggins said she is disappointed. She liked the convenience of the store, and is worried what will happen when the store officially closes in July.
“I am concerned having it vacant for a long time and that might cause people to move out of this area,” said Scoggins. Liquidation sales for the store will begin May 12, 2016.
In a statement from Sears Holding it said that eligible employees will receive severance pay.
