DETROIT, Mich. (WIAT) — Federal authorities and local police are searching for suspects who got away with more than 500 pounds of explosives.
The fireworks were stolen from a train making its way from Chicago to Detroit. The fireworks in question are typically used for aerial shows and are not for consumer use.
Now, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms says the fireworks are extremely dangerous if they’re in the wrong hands. Authorities are now trying to pinpoint exactly where the explosives were stolen.
Donald Dawkins with the ATF says they’re checking all the stops the train made during the trip. They believe the explosives did make it to Detroit but will look into every stop to search for answers.
Officials say they’re most concerned about injuries from the fireworks.
