Community pays tribute to Blount County drowning victims

BLOUNT COUNTY (WIAT) – The Locust Fork community in Blount County gathered Sunday evening to pay tribute to the lives of two sisters lost in a tragic accident. Jessie and Diana Harmon died after drowning Saturday while swimming in the Locust Fork River near Deans Ferry Road.

A prayer service was held Sunday evening at Locust Fork Elementary School, where the girls attended. The family also attended County Line Baptist Church. Pastor Dennis Martin says Jessie and Diana were two special girls who loved to be around their family and friends.

“Jessie always had a hug and a smile for everyone. Diana was outgoing and bubbling and loving and would take care of her two sisters. If you could have seen how the community came together last night, our teachers from Locust Fork ministered to that family, how the church ministered to them, Locust Fork is a special place,” said Martin.

The church’s youth pastor has set up a GoFundMe account to help with the family’s funeral expenses. Click here for a link to the page. Money not used for funeral and burial expenses will go toward an education fund for Jessie and Diana’s surviving sister.
