Northport citizens upset over city hall ‘firearms restricted’ sign

NORTHPORT, Ala. (WIAT) — A controversial sign on the doors of Northport City Hall has some citizens upset.

According to Bama Carry President Eddie Fulmer the signs are misleading the public. Weapons are not allowed in the building during Council or Commission meetings. That is fine with Fulmer, but he wants the signs to be changed.

“We want the signs to say no weapons during council meetings. Hey I’m good with that because that is what state law says. Don’t put up an intentional misleading sign to try to mislead citizens who are trusting you to tell them the right thing,” Fulmer said.

Fulmer says according to State law residents should be able to carry a gun inside the building any other time at City Hall when City Council meetings are not in session. Northport City Councilman Jay Logan says the city will look into ways to make the wording on the signs simplified.
