AUBURN, Ala. (WIAT) – For the third straight year the Auburn basketball team will be featured in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge when they visit Texas Christian University. The basketball showcase pits all ten of the Big 12 schools against ten of the fourteen teams from the SEC on January 28, 2017. All games will be shown on network television. “This challenge brings our program national attention as the entire nation is watching the SEC and Big 12 on this day in January,” head coach Bruce Pearl said in a statement released by Auburn. The Tigers and Horned Frogs have only played three times, with Auburn holding a 2-1 series lead. The last meeting came in 1996. Both teams will be looking to bounce back from disappointing seasons this past year, with TCU finishing 12-21 and Auburn producing an 11-20 record. This will be Pearl’s fifth time coaching in the competition. He won twice while at the helm of the Tennessee Volunteers in 2008 and 2010, and dropped the last two attempts while at Auburn, falling to Texas Tech and Oklahoma State.
