BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and the FBI Birmingham division are joining forces to host a two-day conference which started Tuesday. It’s called “Race and Law Enforcement: It’s More Than Just Black and White.”
The topic of race and law enforcement has captured the national dialogue in our country over the last year.
FBI Director James Comey will be the keynote speaker for the conference on Wednesday. His visit raises the profile of this annual civil rights and law enforcement conference.
“I always like to point out that the Birmingham civil rights institute and the FBI Birmingham division have been doing our conference around these issues for more than a decade so and I think that that contributes to there being a different kind of relationship between the community and law enforcement in our city,” said Priscilla Hancock Cooper, BCRI.
Roger Stanton, Birmingham FBI special agent in charge said: “And I think his words tomorrow he will focus on the importance of knowing the community making sure that we as law enforcement officers are listening to the community.”
The conference sold out Tuesday, but you can register for Wednesday.
