Pedestrian dies after being struck by Amtrak train in Anniston

ANNISTON, Ala. (WIAT) — Anniston police say a pedestrian was hit by a train Friday morning while running across the railroad tracks. He later died.

Police say the pedestrian was trying to cross the tracks on Glenn Addie Ave near 7th St. They think the victim was hit in the time frame of 10:30 to 10:45 a.m.

The pedestrian was taken to Regional Medical Center, and was then airlifted to UAB.

The train involved was the Crescent, Train 19, which travels daily between New York City and New Orleans. 73 passengers were onboard, and there are no reported injuries to them or to crew members. The train was delayed about 50 minutes while officials investigated. Amtrak said in a statement to CBS42, “Amtrak Train 19 came into contact with a trespasser today at 10:10 a.m.CT. . CT. At the time of the incident, 73 passengers were on the train. There are no reported injuries to passengers or crew members. Service was temporarily suspended as authorities investigated the incident. The train resumed service after a delay of about 50 minutes. Local authorities are investigating the incident. Amtrak is cooperating with the incident.”
