Stolen vehicle chase ends in crash on I-65 in Homewood; 2 suspects in custody

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — A Hoover police chase involving a stolen vehicle has ended in in Homewood and two suspects are in custody.

According to Homewood police, they were assisting Hoover in a search for a suspect. Hoover Police told CBS42 the chase began in Hoover when an officer was driving behind the suspect vehicle and noticed it matched the description of a stolen vehicle out of Birmingham. He attempted to stop the car, but they fled. The officer gave chase, but eventually ended it out of safety concerns.

Another patrol unit deployed spike strips. Two of the tires on the vehicle were flattened, but kept going until they crashed into a barrier at the Lakeshore exit. Police say they took one suspect immediately into custody but the other fled on foot. He was caught not too long ago.
