Northport road construction project believed to improve traffic flow, mayor says

NORTHPORT, Ala. (WIAT) — A major road construction project is underway in Northport. Crews are upgrading traffic signals and improving medians along McFarland Boulevard near the intersections of Highway 69 and Highway 82.

Northport mayor Bobby Herndon says he believes the construction will improve traffic flow on the boulevard between Northport and Tuscaloosa.

“I know the good news is once they get it finished, it should speed up the whole traffic flow from Skyland Boulevard in Tuscaloosa all the way out to Rose Boulevard out towards Coker from here,” said Mayor Herndon. “The bad news is that they are closing down some of the entrances into some of the businesses.”

The project also calls for intersection work, closing certain median cut throughs and extending turn lanes to add capacity at the intersection with Town Center Boulevard.
