Shooting of Tuscaloosa man cold case reopened after 16 years

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — 16 years after a Tuscaloosa man was killed outside a club, investigators are once again asking for help to find the shooter.

A suspect allegedly shot 22-year-old Dionte Petty on June 18, 2000. Investigators tell CBS 42 that Petty was leaving the Citizens Club in Tuscaloosa when a fight started. A group of men started shooting and Petty was hit, but police don’t believe he was their target.

There’s very little information about what happened that night or who opened fire. If you know anything about the shooting, call the Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit at (205) 464-8690.
