Birmingham emergency services rescue person pinned in car wreck, gunshot victim

UPDATE: At least one of the people involved in an car crash on 3rd Avenue West and Border Street is now considered to be a suspect in a recent robbery.  According to police, the robbery happened at a Family Dollar location off Bessemer Road.  After allegedly leaving the store, the suspect’s car wrecked with another car.  At least one of the people involved in the crash was also shot and his injuries are considered to be life-threatening.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Firefighters are working to provide aid to people involved in a car crash on 3rd Avenue West and Border Street, according to witnesses on the scene.

Reports of the wreck came into the WIAT newsroom around 4:20 p.m. According to the fire department, the driver of the vehicle was suffering from a gunshot wound, and the female passenger was pinned underneath the SUV, which appears to be a GMC Envoy.

The passenger, who was pinned, suffered a fractured femur. Both were transported to a hospital, and at this time there is no word on their conditions.
