BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Jefferson County deputy shot on Thursday after serving a drug search warrant on Dowell Avenue has been released from the hospital.

The deputy was shot in the leg and suffered a shattered kneecap.

After 3 days at UAB hospital, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office wanted to honor the deputy for sacrificing so much. An applause was heard as the deputy was released from the hospital.

Four suspects were involved in the shooting on Dowell Avenue Thursday afternoon. Three suspects are in custody.

Dejuan Reshad Dedrick of Birmingham is still at large. A warrant has been issued for his arrest. He’s facing one count of attempted murder.

Officials believe he was the suspect who likely fired shots that struck the deputy.

Anyone who knows Dedrick’s whereabouts is asked to call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
