City council votes to help Holocaust Memorial go up downtown

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham City Council voted to lend a helping hand as a new Holocaust Memorial will be going up downtown. The “Birmingham Holocaust Remembrance Garden” will be located on 19th Street North between 3rd and 4th Avenue.

The Birmingham Holocaust Education Center will use the money to build the memorial themselves, which will cost around $500,000. The city is pitching in $45,000 to clear the area for construction.
