Experts blame cheap gas for rise in traffic deaths

(WIAT) — Cheap gas is generally good news, but experts say it comes with a downside. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is blaming cheap gas for a rise in traffic deaths. Since people are driving more, they’re having more accidents.

More than 35,000 people died on U.S. roads last year- that’s the highest since 2008. Officials say driver error is the reason for most accidents.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it’s reached a deal with major automakers to install a standard automatic braking system, which expected to roll out in the year 2022.
