Emergency bridge repairs shuts down lanes, exits Friday until Monday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Alabama Department of Transportation announced emergency bridge repairs beginning Friday, July 22, at 7 p.m. Here is a breakdown of the lane and exit closures:

  • I-59 Northbound from Exit 124A to north of Exit 125A
    • The outside (right) three lanes will be closed beginning just north of the Exit Ramp to I-65 Southbound (Exit 124A) to ½ mile north of the Exit Ramp to 17th Street (Exit 125A).
  • I-59 Northbound, Exit 125A (17th Street)
    • This exit ramp will be completely closed.
  • I-65 Southbound, Exit 261B
    • This exit ramp will be completely closed.
  • I-65 Northbound, Exit 261A
    • This exit ramp will remain open, however the outside (right) lane will be closed and the open lane will come to a yield condition to merge onto I-59 northbound.

To completely avoid the construction delays, if you’re on I-20/59 Northbound exit at or before Arkadelphia Rd, Southbound traffic will not see any construction delays. If you are on I-65 Northbound exit at or before 3rd Ave. If you are on I-65 Southbound exit at or before Finley Blvd.

These emergency repairs are scheduled to be completed by 5 a.m. on Monday, July 25.
