BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: Don Siegelman’s family and supporters have launched a new website where you can learn more about what they believe to be Siegelman’s unfair conviction and trial, as well as how you can help him.
ORIGINAL: Dana Siegelman Kinkade is circulating a new petition to get a pardon for former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman.
This new petition is on RootsAction.org. It is not the first petition circulated to get the attention of the White House.
Despite online petitions, and even hand delivered letters on Don Siegelman’s behalf, he remains in a federal prison in Oakdale, LA. Siegelman was sentenced to six and a half years in prison after his conviction on federal corruption charges.
Don Siegelman maintains he is a political prisoner. Many legal scholars and former Attorneys General across the country have signed letters agreeing that his prosecution was political and not right.
Don Siegelman is scheduled to be release from prison in August 2017.
