FAIRFIELD, Ala. (WIAT) — Mayor Kenneth Coachman has officially announced that he will not be running for reelection.
Coachman has served two terms and after seven and a half years, he is passing on the torch. Coachman and the city council have had their fair share of disagreements, most recently over paychecks and garbage pickup.
“The council and the mayor will have to work vigorously together. I look at what is out there running now. I do not see very much of that happening. I hope I’m wrong. If Fairfield is to survive, those two entities must work together,” Coachman said.
Right now there are seven candidates vying for the mayoral position.
