BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A new program will bring together children with a love of animals and mounted patrol here in Birmingham. It is called “Excellence in Blue”.
Birmingham middle school and high school students interested in being a veterinarian will have an up close experience with the horses used by the police.
“Horses have been found to calm kids down through equine therapy, to calm down other individuals who’ve been in the penal system, our veterans,” Charlie Williams of Birmingham said. “The Department of Veterans Affairs found benefits of equine therapy to assist in post-traumatic stress.”
People interested in signing their child up for the program can get in touch with the Division of Youth Services at bhamyouthfirst.org.
