BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT)– A group will be bike riding down the east coast from Maine to Alabama to end Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The group is called “Ride 4 Gabe”.
Eleven year old Gabe Griffin has Duchenne, which is a fatal genetic disorder that affects the growth of muscles. Most people do not live past the age of twenty.
The group organized their first bike ride in 2014 and will bike across America again starting July 29th to raise awareness and money to support finding a cure for this condition.
“There are about two hundred Duchenne families in the state of Alabama. This is for everybody that’s affected by Duchenne and the money we raise is for awareness and research. So we are not paying salaries. We are all volunteers and we love what we do and that’s why we are doing this” says Michael Staley.
The group will be driving to Maine on Wednesday and will then bike 200 miles a day for 11 days back to Alabama.
