BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Hundreds of kids in the Birmingham area will kick off the school year with some brand news backpacks.
Local businesses and churches teamed up with the United Way and Hands on Birmingham to sponsor Oxmoor Valley Elementary School.
They held a big back to school rally at the school, with food, and games for the students.
“It’s like Christmas to us,” Oxmoor Valley principal Melvin Love said. “Our students are receiving the best, of everything. We’re giving them meals today with back to school resources so that our students are ready for day one.”
250 backpacks were distributed. Birmingham City School students head back to class on Monday, August 8th.
