HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — As the school bell rings in another year, change is in the air for Hoover City Schools.
You may remember in September that Superintendent Dr. Murphy proposed a $168 million budget for 2016 that includes a $10.4 million deficit. Dr. Murphy says that she is addressing school rezoning and the system’s money deficit through a strategic plan to be proposed in the spring.
Last month, she announced her plan to remedy the problem, including delaying filling positions, terminating positions, modifying instructional programs and proposing the sale of the old BHS among other solutions.
Dr. Murphy goes on to say that while some argue that education is a big expense for the general public, she sees it as a wise investment. She says that the system is constantly reviewing the finances and planning forward.
The school bell will ring on August 11.
