ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — The Saint Clair County Sheriff’s Office needs your help to find some equipment stolen from the Sheriff Boys Ranch near Pell City.
Sheriff’s officials say someone made off with a $16,000 Kubota D2331 72″ radius zero turn lawn mower and a $2,000, black 8-by-20 trailer used to pull it.
“Obviously they came in, hooked it up to the trailer, hooked it up over here to our maintenance building, which is right here where this lawn mower is, that’s where it’s parked, loaded it onto the trailer and out they went,” said Ranch Life Director Daniel McCrory.
The Saint Clair County Sheriff’s Boys Ranch is home to 14 boys and young men between the ages of 6 and 18.
“They’ve been through lots of issues in their life that are not their fault, and for whatever reason, they come needing a place to live and a nurturing family environment, and that’s what we try to provide for them,” McCrory said.
The money for the ranch comes from donations, including money the boys raise themselves.
“Everything’s donated and these children work very hard with bass tournaments and things at the sheriff’s boys ranch and pretty much a lot of times, make their own money,” said Deputy Thomas Dixon with the Saint Clair County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office helped raise money for the lawn mower, which the ranch used to mow the lawn on the large property. Now they have to borrow a mower. They can’t afford to buy a new one.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help to find the missing items. They say not only will it help the ranch from a practical standpoint, it will also help teach the boys at the ranch that their community supports them.
“They would see people from the community, they rally together to support others, and especially them,” McCrory said.
