BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham Police have arrrested two juveniles, one 17-years-old the other 13-years-old, on charges of Burglary in the 2nd Degree, according to a release from the department.
The burglary reportedly happened on July 29 around 2:15 a.m., when officers responded to the 1700 block of Ethel Avenue Southwest. When officers arrived, they met the homeowner who stated that someone had broken into her home and that she had shot him.
Officers found the 17-year-old suspect on the living room floor with a gunshot wound to their side. Police believe that the suspect came through the living room window, and the homeowner stated that she was asleep when she heard noise coming from the room.
The homeowner fired several times, striking the suspect once after he allegedly started to advance towards her. Once the homeowner realized that the suspect was shot, she went over to check on him and call 911.
At this time, the 17-year-old appears to be paralyzed from his injury, according to Birmingham Police. The 13-year-old ran from the scene and was later brought to police headquarters by his mother.
The homeowner was reportedly on her guard after her home was burglarized three months ago, and she noticed someone at the same window that the suspect reportedly entered through two weeks ago.
