FAIRFIELD, Ala. (WIAT) — Fairfield police officers and firefighters won’t be paid today, the city council voted Friday evening.
According to finance chair Gloria Matthews, Fairfield Mayor Kenneth Coachman picked which departments would not get paid, and the city council approved his recommendation.
Matthews says she is very upset, and that the police and fire departments are the two largest in the city. The other departments were paid, except for the city councilors and the mayor, Matthews told us.
CBS42 has reached out to city councilors, who have not wished to comment, and are making efforts to contact Mayor Kenneth Coachman, but have not heard back.
