Driver reportedly involved in fatal crash on I-65 in Alabaster charged with DUI

ALABAMA (WIAT) — At 11:50 p.m. Thursday night, a three-vehicle crash took one life. The driver of a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer parked on the shoulder of I-65, one mile south of Alabaster, when his vehicle was struck by a 2008 Nissan Altima driven by Daniel Joseph Robinson, 28, of Calera.

The Mitsubishi Lancer was then hit by a 2006 Hyundai Sonata, which caused the Lancer to catch fire. The driver of the Mitsubishi Lancer was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as 43-year-old Robert Alan Gentry of Clanton.The driver of the Sonata was injured and taken to the hospital.

Robinson was not injured. Records show he has been charged with a DUI, and troopers say alcohol played a factor in the crash. His bond is set at $1,000.
