BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — While UAB Football won’t officially return to competition until 2017, the Blazers will still practice and act like 2016 is a full schedule of games.
That was the message Bill Clark has given since UAB was given the green light to return, and he repeated that message Sunday.
“When September, October, November get here, we will back off.” Clark said of the plan for fall practices for the Blazers. “We’ll probably be at a three day a week clip with a scrimmage on a Saturday, something like that. Maybe a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. We’re going to create some open dates in there.”
Clark said he wants UAB to get used to playing on Saturdays as if they had a full schedule to look forward to.
“They’re going to have a plan that every Saturday morning, we’ve got some kind of practice,” Clark said. “Whether it’s a scrimmage against each other or just a normal practice, that’s why I don’t want to go five or six days a week because I want that Saturday to mean something.”
The Blazers will have an open scrimmage on August 29th, the same date as the groundbreaking of the new practice facility, and October 20th. The October date will act as Homecoming for UAB this season.
