CORNER, Ala. (WIAT) — Corner High School leaders are trying to figure out who vandalized parts of the football stadium. This comes less than week before the first game of the year, a big one for the school, a rivalry game against Dora High School.
Over the weekend, school officials found the two windows at the concession stand had been pummeled with objects, breaking the glass and shattering the panes.
“This is the first time we’ve had something like this happen. This is a good community, and we hope we can get to the bottom of this,” said Assistant Principal Tommy Holmes.
He says they have some leads and surveillance video.
The vandalism, however, didn’t dampen enthusiasm as the Jackets prepare to kick off the season. On Tuesday night, hundreds of fans came to the annual “Meet the Jackets” event at the stadium.
“It’s pretty important. I mean, just look around, there’s tons of people at the game,” said Corner High School student Skylar Lars.
Holmes agreed, saying everyone rallies around the football team, especially ahead of a rivalry game.
“It’s a big deal,” he said.
As for the vandals, fans have some ideas of what punishment they should get.
“Obviously there should be jail time or something of that nature, because it’s vandalism. It’s not something that’s not very serious,” said Garrett Ellis.
