Jefferson County Regional Financial Crimes Task Force arrest man for counterfeit check use

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. (WIAT) — The Jefferson County Regional Financial Crimes Task Force undertook an investigation in early August in conjunction with the Wells Fargo External Fraud Investigations Unit after it was discovered that $10,000 had been fraudulently obtained from a bank branch in the city of Gardendale.

The investigation revealed that the money was obtained from the passing of a counterfeit check. The investigation resulted in members of the Jefferson County Regional Financial Crimes Task Force obtaining warrants on Jeremy Michael Williams, 30, who has been charged with Theft of Property 1st Degree and Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 3rd Degree.

Williams is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
