GREENE COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Update (x2): The Greene County Schools superintendent says all schools are on lock-down while Washington remains at large.
Update: The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency says Washington was able to take the staff’s keys and run off. He is considered armed and dangerous.
Washington was last seen wearing black shorts with no shirt.
Original: A suspect accused of shooting at a Greene County deputy has escaped from jail, officials say.
Eric Washington is accused of attempted murder of a Greene County deputy last year. Last July, he shot the deputy at at least seven times when responding to a domestic call at a residence. The deputy was injured by shattered glass.
According to officials, Washington escaped from the Greene County Jail Tuesday night. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call 911 or Lt. Jeremy Rancher at 205-372-6978 or 205-496-0919.
