UAB Department of Athletics hosts groundbreaking for Football Operations Center & Legacy Pavillion

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Athletics will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for the Football Operations Center and Legacy Pavillion at 9 a.m. on Monday. The ceremony will take place at the UAB Football Facility, which is located at the corner of 6th Avenue and 11th Avenue South.

Blazer Fan Fest will also be on Monday starting at 5 p.m. on the West Campus Athletic Fields, which will be followed by the Green and Gold Game at 7 p.m. on the BBVA Compass Field.

The groundbreaking space will look completely different come 2017. That’s when the new $22 million facility is expected to be completed.

It will have everything from a locker room, training room, players’ lounge, coaches lounge, meeting rooms and then attached will be the Legacy Pavilion, which will give the team a covered practice field, and then two more practice fields on top of that.

Coach Bill Clark says the program shut down was difficult, but they’re making up for it. The new facility will be ready for kickoff in 2017.
