BRIGHTON, Ala. (WIAT) –Antonio Hinkle was shot and killed August 27, 2016 at a “Love Thy Neighbor” event. Several others were injured. Witnesses at the scene say Hinkle try to protect children from the bullets.
Brighton police chief Ray Hubbart calls the shooting an isolated incident and he does not want to kids to be scared to be outside. The chief was energetic when speaking to students at Brighton School as part of a safety rally..
“We want them to know that we love them. We care about them and they know they will be safe. We are not going to let one event damper the holiday weekend,” said Hubbart.
Third grader Kennedy Epps says the officers do a great job and she feels safe.
“The officers are good with keeping the kids safe,” said Epps.
