NORTHPORT, Ala. (WIAT) — A Northport resident and former City Council member is accusing Mayor Bobby Herndon of some serious allegations.
Former City Councilor Jody Jobson is accusing Herndon of violating city ordinances prohibiting conflicts of interest. During the Monday night Northport City Council meeting, Mayor Bobby Herndon got up from his seat and walked out of the meeting in the chambers.
“That’s why we are asking for a formal hearing or a formal investigation to see if this was true,” Jobson said. “If it isn’t true, then there will be no more said about it. If it is true, it needs to be stopped.”
Jobson accused Herndon of doing work for the city with his surveying business. The Mayor owns Herndon, Hicks and Associates in Northport, a professional surveying service. He says that he has done nothing wrong and welcomes any investigation.
“To the best of my knowledge, I’ve fulfilled all my obligations as mayor and as a business man,” Herndon said. “And if I haven’t, the Ethics Board will point that out to me. So let’s wait to see what happens.”
During the city council meeting, Herndon told Jobson that if he had any complaints, he should report it to state of Alabama’s Ethics Commission. Jobson said he has already made a report to the commission.
