House divided: politics and marital problems

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – Sometimes a presidential election doesn’t only divide parties, but also spouses within a house.

Both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are some of the most unliked candidates to ever run for president.

David Morrow, a marriage and family therapist, said politics usually isn’t the reason a couple seeks a therapist, but can sometimes be the underlying cause of other marital problems.

He said the solution can sometimes be simple.

“Acknowledge that both individuals have the right to vote for whom they choose to vote, and they can agree to disagree like they need to agree to disagree on other issues in the house,” Morrow said.

Morrow said he hasn’t seen more couples coming in for therapy this year than usual.
