CLANTON, Ala. (WIAT) — A new hospital in Chilton County is almost ready to open its doors. The area has been without an emergency room and hospital since 2013.
There is going to be a special dedication at St. Vincent’s Chilton Hospital on Friday. Scheduled office visits start Monday. This is a $40 million project on the 40-acre piece of land in Clanton. There are 30 beds and about 130 employees.
Without a hospital these past few years, people either had to go thirty minutes north to Alabaster or to Prattville. That’s a long way in an emergency so the community actually stepped up to help fund the project.
The community is invited to take a tour of the facility on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
This hospital is likely to open next week. There is no official open date because they have to wait on inspectors and surveyors to give the final green light.
